Special Meeting | June 22, 2021

Dear Fellow Members of the Society,

Pursuant to Article XIV of the Constitution of the Association for Christian Instruction at Highland, Indiana, the Board of Trustees, in its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, adopted a resolution recommending to the Society, the ratification of the following amendments to the Constitution. 

The recommended additions to the articles are noted in bold underlined font, and deletions of text are noted in strikethrough and are included for your reference.  This formatting will not appear in the amendments if adopted.  

Pursuant to Article V of the Constitution, the Board of Trustees has called a special meeting of the Society to take place on June 22, 2021 at 6:30 PM in the HCS Gymnasium.  

All members of the Society are eligible to vote.  To be a member of the Society, you must meet all of the following criteria provided in Article IV of the Constitution:

(1)  Be 18 years of age or older;
(2)  Subscribe to Articles II and III of the Constitution;
(3)  Be a member of a Reformed Church and accept the historic creeds of the Reformed churches, namely the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession; and the Canons of Dort; and
(4)  Have made a contribution of at least $10 to any fund of the Association at least sixty days before the date of the annual meeting.  This year’s annual Society meeting was held on Monday May 3, 2021.  Accordingly, the contribution must have been made on or before Wednesday, March 3, 2021 to qualify. For purposes of this requirement, tuition and fee payments qualify as an eligible contribution.

Eligible voters who cannot attend in person may pick up an absentee ballot from the school office or vote online.  The absentee ballot will be emailed and posted on the website on June 10. Online voting will be available from June 10 until 5:00 PM on June 22, 2021 on the Highland Christian School website.  Absentee ballots must be submitted prior to 6:30 PM on June 22, 2021.  The results of the vote will be announced on or before Friday, June 25, 2021.

Question #1

Do you ratify the amendment of the following part of Article IV of the Constitution of the Association for Christian Instruction at Highland, Indiana, including the addition of Footnote 1? 

ARTICLE IV
Membership

All persons eighteen (18) years of age or over, who subscribe to Articles II and III of this Constitution, and are members of a Bible-believing Protestant church, who are members of a Reformed church and who accept the historic creeds of the Reformed churches, namely, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort, affirm in writing the Foundational Beliefs of Highland Christian School,1 and who made an annual contribution to any fund of the Association for Christian Instruction in the preceding year, from a date sixty (60) days prior to each annual meeting of this organization, in an amount fixed from time to time by the Board of Directors, and if no so fixed, in the minimum amount of Ten Dollars ($10) for each said above-described year, are eligible for membership in the society.

Footnote #1 (to accompany Article IV):  The Foundational Beliefs of Highland Christian School referenced in Article IV may only be amended by a subsequent vote of at least two-thirds majority of the Society.  

Question #2

Do you ratify the amendment of the following part of Article VI of the Constitution of the Association for Christian Instruction at Highland, Indiana?

ARTICLE VI
Board of Trustees

  1. A majority of the Board members All Board members shall be communicant (full) members in a Reformed church, as hereinabove defined.  The remaining Board members shall be members in a Bible-believing Protestant church.  All Board members shall affirm in writing their agreement with the Foundational Beliefs of Highland Christian School, which is referenced in Article IV above. No person shall be eligible to hold an executive or administrative office, or to be a member of the Board of Trustees, who is not a member, in good standing, of the Society and meets all the requirements of this Constitution.
