“Just LIVE it!”

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
A strong community is a hallmark of an excellent school. At Highland Christian this is seen through strong parent participation, volunteers helping with TRIP, constituents donating to student related activities, pastors and graduates serving on campus ministries, and the list goes on and on. These relationships help our students and families receive support they need, while showcasing Christ’s love.

The next two Friday nights, we have an opportunity to continue this legacy at HCS’ Fun Fair (March 11) and Skating Party (March 18). As you plan ahead, we hope these events make it on your calendar. Yes, we want your kids to have a great time, but we hope you get to meet someone new and broaden the relationships you have at school!

Lastly, we are thankful for the many students and community members who have participated in the “Vortex” coin challenge so far. On behalf of the HCS Foundation, the new Change for the Future jar has been added to the office. With such excitement the first day, a donor stepped forward to match the first $1,000 that is donated. If you have loose change around the house (or at grandma or grandpas), we would encourage you to contribute to the sustainability and support that comes from HCS’ strong Foundation!

Blessings,
Mr. Weener

“Just LIVE it!”
James 1:22

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

As students entered the building this morning, many were excited to share about their adventures playing in the snow, sleeping in late, and the joys of having a few days off of school. Seeing your children excited about what is happening in their world always brings our team joy!

Over the long weekend, I listened to a number of sermons and podcasts that reinforced the importance of the family unit. Self-reflecting on my personal decisions as a husband and father, I was reminded of the important role I have. I model for my kids what it means to set a Christ-like example, deal with frustrating circumstances or disappointment, ask for forgiveness, and prioritize spiritual growth over worldly growth. Despite coming from different backgrounds and experiences, we are all called to this high standard – to model Christ in all we do.

Here’s an impactful message from Radiant Church – Richland, MI: https://www.radiant.church/sermon-player-library/leaving-your-legacy-week-one

Deuteronomy 11:18-21

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

“Just LIVE it!”

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
While we both grew up in Michigan, my wife and I met during our undergraduate studies at Indiana Wesleyan University. We met in the music department – Abby was a talented and beautiful violinist, and I sang in the university chorale. One of the monteras of the music department was, “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is a little bit of extra”.
Highland Christian is pursuing this “little bit of extra” by hiring marketing and enrollment consultant, Dr. Rick Newberry. Although Highland Christian is seeing historic levels of inquiry (with over 125 new inquiries for the 22-23 school year) and a 99% retention rate of students, the school is embarking on a mission to further improve our marketing, communication, and educational experience for all of our students. As a result, an important community survey will be sent out later today that we are asking you to complete by Friday, February 18.

We appreciate your support of HCS’ leadership team as we strive to support YOU and your family!

Have a great week!
Mr. Weener
