“Highland Has Art” Grant Award

Highland Has Art grantWhen the Highland Community Foundation launched their “Highland Has Art” initiative last Fall, we knew we wanted to be involved!  We went to work right away, designing an all school community art project.

This Fall, students at Highland Christian School will work together to create an Art Bench for our playground. Inspired by the “Buddy Bench” concept, we decided to focus on the AMAZING individuality of each student that God has created and called into our learning community and the gift of community we each receive as we use our individual abilities for the good of others.  Using their fingerprints as the tool for design, each students’ fingerprints will be embedded in a design created by our advanced art students.

When completed, this art bench will be installed on our K-8 playground. We hope it will become a gathering place where students will connect with others, interact and grow.  This project is one of three iniatives Highland Christian School has launched to support positive playground relations.

We wish to thank the Highland Community Foundation for providing the primary funding for this initiative.   Student collaboration will be guided by our art teacher, Mrs. Lauren Evers, our Junior High Bible teacher, Mrs. Vicki Huizenga, our Librarian, Mrs. Judy Zandstra and our Development Director, Miss Jodi Lineburg.

Hebrews 12:1

Dear Parents,
I trust that your children are off to a good start – running the race marked out for them!  If you were at our Convocation on the first day of school you would have met our new teacher – but if you weren’t there you didn’t.
We are very pleased to welcome Mrs. Calli VanKley to our 3rd Continue reading Parent Note – September 10, 2018

Praise God for Aniya’s Safe Return!

God brought Aniya home safely! Praise His holy name! On her behalf and that of her family- thank you to all who interceded.

Posted earlier today:
Please be in prayer for Aniya Herrod.  She has been missing since Tuesday afternoon.  Please pray that God will intervene in this situation, that Aniya will be protected from harm and returned safely to her family.  Please also pray for her family: for wisdom, peace and the necessary resources to see their daughter home.

“If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”
Matthew 5:41

In my announcements this morning, I told students that while it may be too late to make a first impression, it’s never too late to make a good impression.  I hope that all of us at HCS keep that in mind as we close out this year together.
The packet of MAP results and Standards Achievement is coming Continue reading Parent Note – June 4, 2018
