PARENT NOTE – September 8, 2020
“GO: Compelled By Love!”
Psalm 32:8

We’ve played alphabet soup for the past few weeks, but one of the most important terms you can know is PLC. A PLC is a Professional Learning Community. As a Model PLC School (the only private school in Indiana with this designation), we spend extensive time working together with curriculum, student assessment, and building common language. All of our oars are rowing together to benefit students and their learning.

As a parent, you are part of our PLC. We cannot do what we do without your continued support. Here are some roles parents must play to maximize student success:
1. Read with your child at home. I cannot overstate the importance of this task. Whether your child is in Kindergarten or Junior High, children are never too old to read with an adult. This will ultimately lead to a strong vocabulary and excellent readers.
2. Review your child’s assessments with them. Discuss what a growth mindset looks like and what steps must be done so students can (and will) achieve high levels of mastery.
3. Review OnCampus, your teacher’s Bulletin Board, and graded resources with your child. This will help your child understand their learning and what skills they need to continue to develop at school and home.
4. For Junior High students, ask your child to show you their Math IXL progression chart. In doing this, your child will be able to verbalize the standards they are currently mastering and areas where they need further support.

To be clear, you are an important part of the team. As you go through this week, try to find one new way to connect with your child and embrace the skills they are learning at school. Together, we will see our students succeed at the highest of levels!
Mr. Weener

Carl, and I, along with our children (Cavin, Caleb and Carly), would like to thank our HCS family for the numerous kindnesses you have extended to our family, during this most difficult time. There truly are not enough words to express the gratitude we have for each and every one of you for your absolutely, unbelievable generosity. Your kindness and care have made such a difference to us by the love you poured out on our family. When we reflect back on this time in the days/years to come, we will always be humbled and grateful, remembering how your goodness shined through.

We pray this blessing for you today and always:
(Written by Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, Steven Furtick and Chris Brown)

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace
May His favor be upon you and a thousand generations
Your family and your children and their children and their children
May His presence go before you and behind you and beside you
All around you and within you,
He is with you, in the evening
In your coming, and your going
In your weeping, and rejoicing
He is for you

With much love, The Porters
